We are pleased to see work begin on the new Advanced Manufacturing Research Institute (AMRI) in Broughton, North Wales.

The Institute is designed to ensure Deeside and North Wales remains at the forefront of aerospace development, with the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre working with Deeside Enterprise Zone Advisory Board, Swansea University, and Coleg Cambria to develop the new Institute.

Input will also come from  Airbus, which is confirmed as the first tenant at the site.

The Institute, which welcomes a £20 million investment from the Welsh Government, is touted to be the home of a new level of collaboration between industry, entrepreneurs and academic partners, to drive innovation and to up-skill the workforce and prompt economic growth.

The construction of the two-site centre, in Broughton, is due to be completed next year. The Welsh government is in negotiations with AMRC Sheffield to operate the Centre and has appointed contractor Galliford Try to manage the construction phase.
